Topic: Effective Decision-making
On April 23rd, 2008, the 2nd Drucker Reading Club was held successfully in Peter F. Drucker Academy. Twenty-five managers from different enterprises participated in the reading club, which discussed effective decision-making. All participants have read Drucker¡¯s most popular book Effective Executive.
Ms. Jennifer Zhao, Certified Drucker Educator, is the reading club lecturer. ¡°First of all, before you make a decision, you should ask yourself if it¡¯s necessary to make a decision. Sometimes, not to make decision may be a best decision. Drucker said elements of the effective decision-making process are as follows: Identify the problem as generic and answer it through a rule or principle. Deal with the exceptional as it come; Define the boundary conditions; Think through what is right first, before making any compromise; Build into the decision action to carry it out; Get feedback to test the validity and effectiveness of the decision against reality.¡±

All participants shared their experiences and practices about the decision-making elements and decision-making steps posed by Drucker. Many said that Drucker provided a management philosophy and thinking model for management. In fact, the decision-making process is the circulation of the steps in Drucker¡¯s book. Of course, decision-making is complicated and risky. Decision-making means to bear correspondent risks. Therefore, before you know clearly about the problems, not to make decision may be the best decision.

Drucker reading club aims to arouse executives¡¯ enthusiasm about Drucker philosophy with a platform of discussion and exploration. There will be different themes each time periodically. You are welcome to join in us in Beijing Drucker Academy!
